‘Welcome to Wakanda’: Monica Responds to Commentator Criticizing Black Talent Being at CMT Awards

A white reporter objected to the presence of Black celebrities at the CMT Music Awards. A bigoted rant from reporter Patrick Howley about “so many Black people” at the CMTs was prompted by Anthony Mackie and Monica’s attendance.

Mackie, who plays Sam Wilson in the MCU and previously hosted the ESPYs in 2021, was the main target of Howley’s rant.

“I don’t know who this Black guy who’s hosting it. It’s supposed to be country music. No offense. I mean, y’all have hip-hop and basketball. Just fly with your flock bro,” Howley said.

Monica performed during the event and slammed Howley for downplaying her accomplishments in country music. “It’s NOT by the masses,” she said, acknowledging that some people might agree with the reporter.

I’ve never been more motivated.. Patrick Howley, although your feelings are likely shared by some, it’s NOT by the masses! I have an all star LEGENDARY team of true country artist that are currently working with me that would beg to differ !
