A woman in Illinois reported discovering a loaded, stolen handgun in a Walmart grocery bag delivered to her residence and carried across the apartment by her two-year-old son.

Although the toddler was unharmed, the delivery person returned two days in search of the gun.

“I have a Ring doorbell camera, so I gave the police the video of the guy,” explained Bria Caldwell, 27, who resides in the Autumn Pine apartment complex.

The complex is located on the southwestern outskirts of Fairview Heights and O’Fallon. Caldwell called O’Fallon police to report the incident, which occurred Saturday night.

Officers informed her that the gun had been reported stolen in South St. Louis County more than five years prior. On Thursday, Capt. Mike Mojzis stated that he did not wish to provide additional details at that time.

Lt. Nick Stewart of O’Fallon revealed Friday afternoon that officers questioned the deliveryman and that he is fully cooperating. The man is not being identified because he has not been charged with a crime.

Caldwell placed an order for groceries at the Walmart in O’Fallon. She stated that she called the store on Monday and spoke with the manager, who expressed regret and promised to contact a company representative.

She had not received any communication as of Thursday. Caldwell stated that police later informed her that the order was fulfilled at the Belleville Walmart location rather than the O’Fallon location due to the O’Fallon location’s earlier closing time.
