Investigators say a woman was seen loading a gun from her purse early Wednesday at Blake Hospital in Bradenton. Hospital staff called security and 911.

Investigators say Jamekeyra Ulisa Levertt-Chapman, 37, of Sarasota, now faces felonies for bringing a firearm into a hospital and having a concealed gun without a permit.

The handgun was a Smith & Wesson Bodyguard.380, a semi-automatic weapon with an integrated laser, and she had a high-capacity, drum-style magazine and 58 rounds of ammunition, according to police.

Her intentions or motives have not been made public.

“She had a semi-automatic weapon with 58 rounds, that is a very serious situation, and it could’ve been very bad. We don’t know what her motivations were,” said Meredith Frameli, public information officer for the Bradenton Police Department.

According to police, additional witnesses saw the accused loading what did appear to be ammo into a magazine.   People noticed something and said something.
