Tuesday evening, shots were fired inside an East Memphis hotel due to a workplace romance.

It happened around 6:20 p.m. at the DoubleTree Memphis Hotel on Sanderlin Road.

According to police, the call initially appeared to be an active shooter, but that was not the case.

According to a hotel manager, 36-year-old Antonio Lewis began arguing with another worker who enjoyed the same woman. Lewis was captured on surveillance video exiting the employee entrance hours after almost becoming involved in a fight, according to police.

According to Memphis Police, Antonio Lewis went to a Chrysler Crossfire to get a weapon before returning to the kitchen and shooting 4 shots at the manager and other workers.

Lewis, according to the detectives, went outside and left the gun behind in a vehicle. After briefly strolling back inside the hotel, he left again, this time by getting into the same Chrysler and driving away.

Lewis was later taken into custody, according to the police, by MPD’s Scorpion Unit.

Aggravated assault and reckless endangerment were the charges brought against Lewis.

He is out on a 25,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court on September 7.
